WHAT TO EXPECT IN THERAPY
What are sessions like at Wise Psychotherapy?
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you're not sure what to expect. Your first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. We'll talk about what brought you in, what you'd like to change, and how we can work together. You set the pace, and you can share as much or as little as you like.
In your first session
We'll talk about what's been going on and what you're hoping to get out of therapy
We'll learn a bit about your background, your relationships, and what support you already have
We'll explain how we work and answer any questions you have
We'll agree on initial goals and a plan for what comes next
Ongoing sessions
Sessions are 50 minutes and usually weekly or biweekly to start, then spaced out as you feel ready. Each session builds on the last. We'll check in regularly on how things are going and adjust our approach whenever something isn't working for you. Many clients also try small exercises or reflections between sessions, but that's always collaborative, never a requirement.
Privacy
What you share in therapy is confidential. There are limited exceptions required by law, such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others, and we'll explain these clearly at the start so there are no surprises.
There's no right or wrong way to begin. Whatever you bring to the room, we'll meet you where you are.

This varies from person to person. Some people come for a few sessions to work through something specific, while others continue longer term. We'll check in regularly on your progress and talk openly about what pace makes sense for you.
